Services for the Elderly on Lockdown in Senior Housing

My elderly parents are on lock down in their senior housing complex. Recently, my mother had to leave the campus in order to ship some legal documents overnight. The good news (sort of) is that she did find a travelling notary who came to the campus to notarize the documents. She is now counting down the days to see if she will fall ill from possible exposure to the COVID-19 virus.

My mother is fortunate in that she... more »

COVID-19 Response: Invisible Problems

Depression exacerbated.

inability to participate in community activities creates stress and loneliness. No meetings no church no holiday get togethers. When you already live alone it just creates more isolation and if your internet goes down-then no zoom. Traveling and weather related events are very complex and stressful.

What's being done to safely promote free access to books and learning materials? I got an email today from a small town library I was part of once and... more »

Unappreciated essential workers

Us essential workers would really like an incentive for the work we do. We're out there risking our own health not to mention our families. We'd just like to know that we are appreciated for taking that risk every day. It's upsetting to know that all of the essential workers who keep America running aren't worth any kind of boost at all.

Feeding the Masses

Due to COVID-19 many African countries are in partial or full lockdown. Because of the lockdown situation, agricultural products can't get from the farm to market centers. Additionally, traditional markets have been closed for sanitation purposes and because social distancing could not be adequately enforced. The unintended consequence is that the majority of the population are unable to access agricultural products and... more »

People Seeking Help for Alcohol and Drug Addiction Selected

Lock-down and self-isolation has led to a steep increase in people using alcohol and drugs. The increased gun violence has a connection to the drug and alcohol problem. Patients in need of help have no resources. Sadly, many treatment centers and clinics treating patients have cut down their services and/or patients are hard-pressed to reach the few clinics providing treatment.

We are seeing increased incidence of drug... more »
